Come, Thou Almighty King (LBW 522)
Text: Unknown; Tune: “Italian Hymn,” Felice de Giardini
Come, thou Almighty King,
help us thy name to sing;
help us to praise;
Father, all glorious,
O’er all victorious,
come and reign over us,
Ancient of Days.
Come, thou Incarnate Word,
gird on thy mighty sword;
our prayer attend.
Come and thy people bless,
and give thy word success,
and let thy righteousness
on us descend.
Come, Holy Comforter,
thy sacred witness bear
in this glad hour!
Thou who almighty art,
now rule in ev’ry heart,
and ne’er from us depart,
Spirit of pow’r.
To thee, great One in Three,
eternal praises be
hence evermore!
Thy sov’reign majesty
may we in glory see,
and to eternity
love and adore.
Apostolic Greeting
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you.
Kyrie
In peace, let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy.
For the peace from above, and for our salvation, let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy.
For the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the Church of God, and for the unity of all, let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy.
For this holy house, and for all who offer here their worship and praise, let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy.
Help, save, comfort, and defend us, gracious Lord. Amen.
Prayer of the Day
Ezekiel 34:11-16, 20–24
Psalm 95:1-7a (responses are the even numbered verses)
1Come, let us sing to the Lord;
let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.
2Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving
and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.
3For the Lord is a great God,
and a great King above all gods.
4In his hand are the caverns of the earth,
and the heights of the hills are his also.
5The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands have molded the dry land.
6Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee,
and kneel before the Lord our Maker.
7aFor he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture*
and the sheep of his hand.
1 Corinthians 15:20-28
Matthew 25:31-46
Sermon: “The Conquering King”
The Apostles Creed
I believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen
Offertory Prayer
Merciful Father, we offer with joy and thanksgiving what you have first given us—our selves, our time, and our possessions, signs of your gracious love. Receive them for the sake of him who offered himself for us, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Create In Me
Create in me a clean heart, oh God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and uphold me with your free Spirit.
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen
