Scripture Texts: Numbers 11:24-30; Psalm 25:1-15; Acts 2:1-21; John 7:37-39
Wait for God. Too often, individuals and entire congregations rush ahead of the Spirit. They are determined to do things their way—even if that is the same old way, “the way we’ve always done it in our church.” But God is doing something new, and we may see it, if we wait. Without the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and his guidance (inspiration), we stumble, at best. Alcoholics Anonymous describes

Hymn: Holy Spirit, Truth Divine
Lyrics: Samuel Longfellow; Music: “Song 13,” Orlando Gibbons
Holy Spirit, truth divine,
dawn upon this soul of mine.
Word of God and inward light,
wake my spirit, clear my sight.
Holy Spirit, love divine,
glow within this heart of mine.
Kindle every high desire,
purge me with your holy fire.
Holy Spirit, power divine,
Fortify this will of mine.
By your will I strongly live,
bravely bear, and boldly strive.
Holy Spirit, peace divine,
still this restless heart of mine.
Speak to calm this tossing sea,
Stayed in your tranquility.
Holy Spirit, right divine,
King within my conscience reign;
be my guide and I shall be
firmly bound, forever free.

Numbers 11:24-30
Psalm 25:1–15 (responses are even-numbered verses)
1 To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul; my God, I put my trust in you;
let me not be humiliated, nor let my enemies triumph over me.
2 Let none who look to you be put to shame;
let the treacherous be disappointed in their schemes.
3 Show me your ways, O Lord,
and teach me your paths.
4 Lead me in your truth and teach me,
for you are the God of my salvation; in you have I trusted all the day long.
5 Remember, O Lord, your compassion and love,
for they are from everlasting.
6 Remember not the sins of my youth and my transgressions;
remember me according to your love
and for the sake of your goodness, O Lord.
7 Gracious and upright is the Lord;
therefore he teaches sinners in his way.
8 He guides the humble in doing right
and teaches his way to the lowly.
9 All the paths of the Lord are love and faithfulness
to those who keep his covenant and his testimonies.
10 For your name’s sake, O Lord,
forgive my sin, for it is great.
11 Who are they who fear the Lord?
he will teach them the way that they should choose.
12 They shall dwell in prosperity,
and their offspring shall inherit the land.
13 The Lord is a friend to those who fear him
and will show them his covenant.
14 My eyes are ever looking to the Lord,
for he shall pluck my feet out of the net.
15 Turn to me and have pity on me,
for I am left alone and in misery.

We welcome visitors to our online services. Please know that, because of the Coronavirus, St. Mark's has taken a conservative approach to coming back together in person. We have set October 11th, as the Sunday when we might begin worshiping in our sanctuary again. For our reopening policy, follow this link. When we do reopen, we hope you will join us—or continue watching live services on our website if distance or other reasons do not allow being with us in our sanctuary.
